But things go wrong on the Urbaine when the aliens, detecting that the away team is about to leave, take one of the members prisoner. Commander Andrews and the other members of the away team are powerless to stop the aliens. Captain Banda waits for a short time for the situation to be resolved, but fearing for the safety of the Hawaii, he finally makes the hard decision to leave the away team behind in the command of Commander Andrews to find for themselves the best they can. Lieutenant Gagne, who had been sent out in a shuttle to trace the path of the Urbaine's escape pods is sent a message that he should return to the Urbaine and wait for further instructions. With these tasks done, the Terra Nova warps away to help its fellow ship. When it arrives at the co-ordinates sent by the Hawaii, the crew of the Terra Nova discovers the Hawaii trailing the old Belstaisi warship known as the Tebligek, which in turn is trailing its quarry, the Belstaisi trader, Renuise. The Tebligek "ship mind," a sentient computer gone insane, is attempting to infect the Renuise with its madness. Putting their heads together, the captains of the two Federation ships and Commander Greer, form a plan to board the Tebligek and disconnect its "ship mind," if possible. Commander Greer and an away team that includes Lieutenant Kursk, CPO J'an, and Ensign Arianna LaNovra, use Greer's runabout, the USS Doolittle, to puncture the Tebligek's shields while the Terra Nova and Hawaii make a concentrated attack on the other side of the ship to distract it. The subterfuge is successful and the away team succeeds in beaming aboard the mad ship. Over the next few hours, the away team, split into two groups, make their way through the ship, battling internal defense systems and armed robots. Commander Greer is injured and loses a finger in a firefight. The teams, greatly assisted by Joe Parn in his combat suit, are eventually are able to disable the Tebligek's shield generators and gain access to its ship mind. The Tebligek breaks off its pursuit of the Renuise to deal with the internal threat. The Renuise, no longer pursued as the Tebligek tries to save itself, beams in soldiers to assist the beleaguered away team. With help from the Belstaisi soldiers, the Tebligek's Ship Mind is disabled and the ship rendered inert. Captain Olis Yakkith of the Renuise gives his personal thanks to Commander Greer, Commander Banda and Captain Aswar, explaining in a long discussion that the Belstaisi ship minds are actually a race known as a Rekisha and the Belstaisi Corporate World's chief ally. The rescue puts the Federation in good favor with the Belstaisi. Meanwhile… The away team still on the Urbaine attempts to solve the problem with the mysterious aliens, who continue to ask for help, while refusing to explain what help is needed. Finally, in exasperation, Commander Andrews agrees. To his shock, and the shock of those on the away team, the aliens grab Doctor Ethain and after a few moments, disappear with him. In the following hours, the away team struggles to discover where the aliens might have Taken Ethain, finding only that it might have been dimensional transport. With little else to do, the Away team waits, attempting to get limited life support back on, on the old ship so they no longer have to rely on their EVA suits. Without warning, sometime during the wait for the Terra Nova to return, unknown forces, consisting of a Bolian and a Jem'Hadar attack the away team and beam them away. Only commander Darnel and a lone security officer manage to escape. When Lt. Gagne arrives in the shuttle as ordered, he finds them there and rescues them. The Urbaine is then unexpectedly destroyed as they a futile search for the ship that must have taken them. Unbeknownst to anyone, the attackers were Qu-rog troops and the away team has been spirited away to be brainwashed for a nefarious purpose… to serve in the Qu-rog military as willing soldiers, with false backgrounds, memories, and a perfect willingness to die for the Qu-rog cause. Near Liberty Station: The Qu-rog make their first overt strike against the Federation forces in the region in the form of an attack on the lonely Federation freighter, the USS McClellen. The attack appears deadly to the crew of the McClellen, but inexplicably, the attacker explodes, unintentionally saving what remains of the McClellen crew. Liberty Station, devoid of any ships to help except the McClellen's sister ship, the USS Thomas MacDonaugh, borrows a ship from the Yetanni, the "Tied Dyed Crow" (a bird of prey seized from rogue Ferengi) and enlists the help of the refugees from the Qu-rog and their small ship, they've named "Hunter." The rescue of the McClellen goes well, and the rescue team, led by Liberty's Security chief, Commander Margolis, begins a salvage operation of the Qu-rog ship debris to discover what they can about the mysterious attack. =/\= This episode’s post archive starts here, and ends here. ___________________________________________________________________ Episode 012 "THE BATTLE OF NEW URBAINE" (Late May, 2378) Amidst the search for their missing crew, the Terra Nova and Hawaii receive a startling distress call from a long lost Federation colony. It becomes clear that the crew of the USS Urbaine survived their trip into the region after all, and even thrived on a world deep within the reaches of the Ryalli Nebula. With the co-ordinates of the colony already having been discovered by Lieutenant Kursk, the Terra Nova and Hawaii warp off to render assistance to the colony if they can. When the two ships arrive in the New Urbaine system, they find that the system’s third planet is a rather pleasant M-class world, with unpleasant visitors hanging overhead. The colony is intact with nearly 10,000 humans on the planet, but in orbit of the planet are two Qu-rog warships, and four freighter style ships, all with nefarious plans. With nothing known about Qu-rog weaponry, ships or battle tactics, the Terra Nova and Hawaii move into the system to confront the attackers. The Hawaii sends out a distress call. The Qu-rog oblige them, ignoring their attempts at peaceful communications. Two warships, built with a combat style in mind that is similar to old Earth’s wooden sailing navy ships, break off from the freighters and move to intercept the Federation ships. The Qu-rog, who use a form of disrupters as their main weapons manage to hit both the Hawaii and Terra Nova with several broadsides before one of the Qu-rog warships is disabled. The Hawaii and Terra Nova, both able to travel at faster speeds than the warships, disengage and head towards the planet in an attempt to stop the Qu-rog freighters from attacking the planet further. Yet before they can, the freighters drop three small transports into the atmosphere. Acting quickly, the Terra Nova fires on the transports, causing all three to crash land. The transports carry robotic capture drones intended to tag the planet’s inhabitants for capture and transport to the freighters. There follows a frantic battle on the surface with the planet’s inhabitants desperately holding of the Qu-rog. Their primative weapons are no match for the Qu-rog. To assist, Terra Nova and Hawaii send down security teams led by Lt. Rik Darnel and Lt. Timothy Kursk to take out the transports and make contact with the colony. The away teams are successful and with the sudden arrival of the Belstaisi ships, Renuise and Tebligek in the system in response to the Hawaii’s distress call, the Qu-rog withdraw. The Terra Nova, Hawaii and crews then begin the effort of helping the people of New Urbaine rebuild and become reacquainted with the Federation. Meanwhile... The crew-members kidnapped by the Qu-rog begin their new (brainwashed) lives as Qu-rog soldiers, serving on a Qu-rog troop ship, en-route to a planet controlled by a carnivorous race of enemies to the Qu-rog, known as the Faelen. The captured crew include Tim Harcolm, Toshiko Sandvik, Garrett Andrews, Tamar Klan, and Ian Holmes. Their ship is attacked and destroyed, but much of the crew is able to escape in escape pods and eventually make their way to a nearby M class planet where a camp has been set up by a group of Rebels of the Qu-rog, known as the Qu-rara Circle. The Qu-rara Circle appears to be humans and other races that have managed to regain their original memories and now are attempting to stop the Qu-rog from within. They are secretly being assisted by a race known only as “The Watchers.” With the assistance of the Qu-rara, the captured Terra Nova crew members are restored to their normal selves, with the exception of Ian Holmes who is accidentally killed when Tim Harcolm tries to stop him from killing Tamar Klan. “The Watchers” agree to take the Terra Nova crew and few other humans back to New Urbaine. Their arrival is received with surprise and joy by both the planet of New Urbaine and the crew of the Terra Nova. On Liberty Station: The crew of Liberty, including Crewman Ryko Tabor, Ensign Amalia Wilcox, Lt. Kalev Remont and Lt. Elara Trax go about their normal duties when a security breach is detected. Someone has sent a large volume of data via subspace towards Qu-rog space and managed to hide their tracks. Kalev Remont becomes the chief suspect when his security codes are found to be the ones used to breach the system. At the same time, a strange ship smashes into Liberty Plateau. It is of a configuration not known to the Federation. There are crew still alive inside the ship, but the alloys of the hull prevent transporters from being used. A rescue attempt begins. =/\= This episode’s post archive starts here, and ends here. ___________________________________________________________________ Episode 013 "HEROES AND VILLAINS" (Late May, 2378) After a short stay at New Urbaine, helping the colony rebuild after the damage of the Qu-rog attack, the Terra Nova, now with its missing crew members returned, sets out for Liberty Station. The USS Hawaii remains behind to guard the colony with the help of the Belstaisi. The Terra Nova arrives at Liberty in the midst of a crisis... Someone has sent a message towards Qu-rog space via Subspace, and with Liberties own transmitters. The culprit seems to have used the station’s own systems, and hidden his tracks well. While some members of the Liberty crew are suspected for the espionage, they are quickly cleared and the culprit remains unknown… Meanwhile, rescue teams reach the strange ship that crashed into Liberty Plateau and begin looking for survivors. Crewman Ryko Tabor helps the survivors of the ship, a race known as the Caepae-Uran escape their crashed ship and discovers they are entirely telepathic. This becomes the first official contact with the Caepeans. Ryko’s actions earn him a promotion. Rik Darnel, having been the officer who made first contact with the Bibbiti, is summoned to talk with them and with their assistance is able to capture the escaped Ferengi. The Bibbiti express concern over the presence of the Caepae on the station, suggesting the Caepae may not be as friendly as they seem. At the same time, the formerly brainwashed crew-members of the Terra Nova continue their recovery from their ordeal, but for some, troubling questions remain, especially when they are troubled by disturbing dreams chanting “Qu-Rain.” Lieutenant Klan and Ensign Harcolm both have similar dreams, but laugh it off and promise to keep watch for future reoccurances. Amidst all the activity, in a sudden and stunning blow, Liberty Center (the main shopping area on Liberty Station) is racked by massive explosions. The incident is quickly discovered to be a bombing. Several Liberty crew are killed and many more are injured. Mutineer Lieutenant Markov and several Ferengi escape from Liberty’s brig in the confusion of the bombing and a search to find them begins. An investigation ensues as repair efforts proceed, assisted in part by members of the Terra Nova crew. Several Liberty crew are investigated for their involvement including Lieutenant Kalev Remont and Ensign Amalia Wilcox. Lieutenant Remont becomes the prime suspect, but it is soon discovered that he has been framed. Through investigative work by Station Security and a tip from Ryko Tabor, longtime resident of Liberty Station, Engineer Lt. Bill Brown is found to be the perpetrator and arrested for orchestrating the bombing. Further charges are filed against him for the attempted murder of Ryko Tabor. His motive, he claims is fear and anger at the destruction caused to the Federation by their reckless expansionism. Unbeknownst to the investigators, Bill Brown was not alone, but his co-conspirator remains hidden in the shadows. Shortly after the capture of Lieutenant Bill Brown, the Federation forces in the Ryalli sector are stunned by a report from the Federation. President of the Federation, Jaresh Inyo, has been assassinated by a previously unknown anti-expansionist terrorist group known as “Righteous Blue.” . =/\= This episode’s post archive starts here, and ends here. ___________________________________________________________________ Episode 014 "ACQUISITION" (Early June, 2378) Liberty Command has received disturbing news. Based on intermittent sensor data from a failed probe, someone is interfering with a pre-warp civilization on a planet known as Riawa. The culprit appears to be a Federation ship, suggesting that one of the many civilian trading companies based at Liberty are violating the Prime Directive. Captain Kelso, unable to assess the situation from Liberty Station, orders the USS Terra Nova to the Riawa System to investigate. Before she leaves, Terra Nova receives a new Doctor. The new doctor is: Lt. Trace Allel Lieutenant Kingsley, once an officer on the Ill-fated Thunderbird also transfers aboard. When they arrive at Riawa, they find the entire system in the midst of ionic storms that make transport to the surface by anything but shuttle impossible. With little else to go on, Captain Banda assigns an away team, led by Lieutenant Commander Andrews and consisting of Tamar Klan, Kalev Remont, Tim Harcolm and Ryko Tabor, to take a shuttle down to begin preparations for an investigation. As the shuttle enters the atmosphere, it is shot at, and brought down by unknown enemy fire. The shuttle crash lands, stranding her crew on the surface. Meanwhile, in space, a ship approaches Terra Nova, catching her off guard because of the storm. The ship is a Ferengi Marauder, and her message to the Terra Nova is, “surrender.” Captain Banda refuses and flees into the ionic storm, hoping to break out of it and send a emergency message to Liberty. Unfortunately, the Marauder follows, and after another warning to surrender, attacks Terra Nova. It is clear to the Terrra Nova command staff that these Ferengi are rogue and no longer part of the Ferengi Alliance. While the Terra Nova is massively out-gunned, it quickly becomes apparent that the Ferengi crew manning the Oolamar must be entirely incompetent. Incompetent or not, the Oolamar inflicts severe damage to the Terra Nova. With her shields failing, Banda orders the Terra Nova on one last weapons pass on the bigger ship. The pass is successful, knocking out the Oolamar’s engines entirely. But there is no jubilation, for just before the engines are knocked out, the Oolamar manages to begin beaming boarding parties onto Terra Nova. The Terra Nova crew, led by Lt. Darnel desperately attempts to fend off the attackers, who seem to be as incompetent as the ship they’d come from. At the same time, the bridge and Commander Banda are captured as well, until action by the Yetanni Ambassador, Trabwa, manages to free them. The Ferengi seem poised to win the ship, until Doctor Allel uses Nitrous Oxide (Which seems to be even more potent to Ferengi than humans) released into the ship’s ventilation to incapacitate the attackers. With the attackers locked up, and the Oolamar adrift, the Terra Nova begins the trip back to the planet to search for the shuttlecraft crew. At the same time on the planet, the away team flees the wreckage of the shuttle seeking refuge from their unseen attackers. They move to higher ground and discover a pool by a waterfall that seems to contain some of the planet’s inhabitants, sentient amphibians. The team makes accidental first contact, and tries to construct a rudimentary beacon to contact the Terra Nova. Shortly after constructing the beacon, Ryko Tabor disappears after an encounter with a Ferengi scouting party that was out looking for them. Both he and the Ferengi are captured by the Humanoid race of Riawa. At the base camp, Ensign Harcolm begins to display signs of cracking due to stress. A short time later, the remaining members of the away team are also captured and sent on large locomotives towards one of the world’s cities for investigation. Thankfully, soon after the away team arrives in the city, they are discovered by a Ferengi search party and rescued. When the Terra Nova arrives in orbit, the desperate Ferengi offer a prisoner exchange. After some negotiation, Commander Banda agrees. With the away team exchanged for the Ferengi prisoners, the Terra Nova, backed up by the newly arrived USS Avalon, begins the journey back to Liberty, uneasy in the knowledge that the Ferengi have a base in the sector and were still exploiting Riawa, out for profit by any means necessary. Meanwhile on Liberty Station, a security officer with a checkered past comes on the scene: Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike Abell Working with Commander Margolis, he attempts to recapture the escaped mutineer, Alexandro Markov (who escaped during the Liberty bombing). Abell is successful, but not without losing a close friend in a firefight and being the subject of a bizarre Yetanni prophesy about a strange mystical gate. =/\= This episode’s post archive starts here, and ends here. ___________________________________________________________________ Episode 015 "WEBS" (Late June, 2378) After a few crew transfers, the Terra Nova is assigned to a boring mission of exploration in the region surrounding the planet of Riawa near Belstaisi space in search of the rogue Ferengi base of operations. The mission is mostly uneventful, with the Terra Nova exploring seven star systems. Among their finds are a planet where all life appears to be fungal and another that had been shattered by a recent asteroid collision. On the last of the systems they visit, the Terra Nova discovers a primitive warp capable vessel orbiting one of the planets. The ship hails the Terra Nova using a series of clicks for communication. After several hours of effort, Lieutenant Kalev Remont manages to decipher the language and the aliens are invited to the Terra Nova for official first contact. When the newly discovered alien’s ambassador is beamed to Terra Nova, the crew is shocked to discover that the starship’s builders are a race of giant arachnids, with an appearance similar to Earth’s Tarantula spiders. The race, who call themselves the K'titch'tik are on their first extra-solar mission into space, in a primitive warp capable vessel. Warp drive troubles on their ship threaten their survival, and they request assistance for repairs. With the assistance of Lieutenant Manning and Chief Michael Abell, the K'titch'tik ship is repaired. Despite a few faux pas, including the captain’s dog nearly being mistaken for food, the crew of the Terra Nova and the K'titch'tik establish an amicable relationship. The Arachnids are both friendly and enlightened and surprisingly to the Terra Nova crew, imbued with a lively sense of humor. The Terra Nova and the K'titch'tik ship part company as the K'titch'tik ship begins a long journey home. Based on recommendations from Commander Banda, the K'titch'tik homeworld is slated for a first contact mission by the USS Avalon in several months time. The mission is also notable for the report filed against Chief Michael Abell on July 4th for detonating explosives on the exterior of the ship without authorization. =/\= This episode’s post archive starts here, and ends here. ____________________________________________________ << Previous five << I >> Continue to next five episode synopsi >> |
