 STATE OF THE UNIVERSE

Here you will find current sim information concerning some of the major canon Star Trek and Terra Nova political powers. Such listings are in brief, and are intended to serve as a political reference to known political entities. Generally most of the Alpha and Beta quadrant species are outside the storytelling of this sim.

RYALLI SECTOR

Federation (Liberty Command):

The Federation presence within the Ryalli Sector (also known as Liberty Command), remains neutral in terms of taking any political sides in any conflicts within the sector. The Yetanni (Gideon) and Tempi (Tempus) peoples are unofficial allies, and have made preliminary requests to join the United Federation of Planets as member worlds. To date, however, those requests have been largely unanswered by the Federation Council on Earth. Reports indicate that the Federation Council is currently considering those requests
.

Qo-Rog Imperium:

The Qu-Rog appear to be THE political power of concern in the Ryalli Sector. They are extremely war oriented, and continue to wage war upon their enemies through the use of brainwashing techniques and general exploitation of all who are unfortunate to fall beneath their control. Little else is known about the present state of their affairs.

Capaen Confederation:

Nothing of note is known about the present political status of this species, other than the fact they they appear to be a confederation of alligned worlds. There is rumor that they maintain hostilities toward the Qu-Rog.

Faelen Alliance:

Knowledge of this political power remains very sketchy and comes only from the accounts of those who have escaped the clutches of the warring Qu-Rog -- the mortal enemies of the Faelen. At present, reports indicate that the Faelen continue to make war against the Qo-Rog as they have for many years.

Valadis Obligarchy:

Little is actually known of this mysterious political power. The only notable contact has been in securing the use of the Valadis Corridor, an unusual warping of space that shortens warp travel to the distant Ryalli sector and Liberty Station. Only recently, and most likely at the pressure of another power, the Valadis have closed the corridor to all Ryalli traffic. The rumor that they are also about to do the same to all subspace communcations grows stronger by the day.

No one has ever seen a member of the Valadis. They remain a secretive and secluded species, and carefully guard the release of any further information about themselves. They generally seem to distrust outsiders.

ALPHA & BETA QUADRANTS

United Federation of Planets

The Federation is currently recovering from the disasterous results of the Dominion War. Though victorious, casualties were astronomical, with a multitude of starships being lost to combat, and resulting in the Federation Starfleet being spread thinly throughout it's expansive territory. The experience gained by the surviving crews and personnel, and the fact that the Starfleet ships remaining are either veteran units or brand-new top of the line starships does however give Starfleet a certain tactical edge. They share this status along with the Klingons, even after the war.

The losses the Federation took through the war have led to numerous severe shortages of ships and crews. Starfleet Intelligence and the Starfleet Marines are now dependant on the main branch of Starfleet for ships and transportation, especially as both their own departmental resources were almost lost entirely during the war.

Amidst this all, a powerful anti-expansionist movement is rapidly gaining support throughout the Federation, and is rumored to possibily include top military and political personnel.
The recent assasination of the Grazerite Federation President proves this, as Starfleet struggles to maintain political stability during its own intense reconstruction period.

Klingon Empire

In the fight against the Dominion, many of the casualties were from the Klingon Empire as they undertook most of the dangerous covert missions deep into Dominion held space to destroy key installations. Their shipyards have been busy however, and the Klingon fleet is much further along in recrontruction than is Starfleet. They are becoming somewhat restless however at the lack of fighting and are the main supporters of continuing the war into the Gamma Quadrant. They remain in the uneasy peace between themselves and the Romulans.

Romulan Star Empire

The Romulans remain hesitant partners in the Post-Dominion War Alliance, maintaining their prejudice against the Klingons and Federation. They are defiantly keeping an air of superiority, despite the fact their fleets were not decimated just once, but twice during the course of the war. Their continued participation in the Alliance, however, may only be because of their limited fleet size. Their weakened empire does not have the resources to rebuild as rapidly.

Since the War, the Romulans have shown signs of becoming more agressive against the Federation, though they have not yet acted upon that impression. It is theorized that they are using it more as a bargaining chip in their own reconstruction efforts. At the present time, they are assumed to be a much weaker power than they claim.

Bajor -- (UFP)

Bajor remains a major location in political matters due to its proximity to the Gamma Quadrant wormhole. Only recently, however, has Bajor finally been accepted into the Federation as a member planet. Having been strategically kept out of the war due to a clever Dominion non-aggression treaty, the Bajoran peoples are in stronger shape than her now-affiliate planet, Earth. As a result, Bajor is becoming a major asset to Federation control in the once severely war-ravaged nearby regions of space. Deep Space Nine remains a fortified Federation stronghold, and holds strict control over access of the Bajoran Wormhole.

Cardassian Union

Once a major military power, the Cardassian Union has been defeated and their space is now occupied by the Alliance forces which patrol the area to ensure that the remnants of the Cardassian space fleets cannot be remobilized. The Detapa Council -- the civilian government that went into exile during the Klingon/Cardassian war -- has been reinstated and is currently working to shift the production of the few remaining Cardassian-controlled planets from wartime operations to peacetime activities. All Dominion operatives and ranking citizens have been detained and held for war crimes. Most have been sentenced to penal colonies throughout the Federation.

The former Cardassian political regime is struggling to recover from the devestating effects of the war and the tragic deception of her former ally -- the Dominion. They are marginal allies of the Post War alliance.

Dominion

Despite their alliance with the Cardassians and success in the early stages of the war with the Federation, the Dominion was forced to surrender in 2376 and for the most part, has been confined to their space in the Gamma Quadrant. The Founders have been quarantined on a planet in the Gamma Quadrent, and a fragile military control of Dominion territory has been enforced by alliance forces and freed Dominion Jem H'adar soldiers under a tri-lateral occupation. Loyal Dominion Jem H'adar forces make up the vast majority of the occupation force and are supplemented by Alliance forces.

The Alliance goal in Dominion territories is to move many of the Dominion occupied worlds into independance. There has been some success among the outlying worlds towards this end, including the formation of a quasi military alliance of freed Dominion worlds known as The Freedom Guard to protect newly independant worlds from outside aggression. Economic pacts have been formed as well, with trade and commerce helping to stabalize and fill the power vaccum left by the Founders.

This push for independant worlds has not been entirely successful, however, with some worlds collapsing into civil war and others becoming increasingly hostile and expansionist towards neighbors with the increased freedoms they have been granted. Alliance and loyal Dominion forces are slowly being stretched thin as the situation intensifies.

The situation is further complicated by a few rogue Cardassian Military and Jem'Hadar troop elements that still conduct raids on Federation and Alliance-controlled territory. It is presumed that there is also at least one Dominion outpost still in the Alpha or Beta Quadrants, as evidence has pointed to a Jem'Hadar spawning center and a Ketracel White facility somewhere outside of what was thought to be the Cardassian frontier. Alliance efforts to locate and destroy this facility are still underway.

Breen Confederacy

After the Dominion War, the Breen were sent back to their pre-war boders and forced to provide reconciliation payments to the Federation, Romulan Star Empire, and the Klingon Empire for their actions during the war. This payment has included information on Breen technology currently in use and under development.

The provisions of the treaty ending the war failed however to completely halt Breen aggression. In response to this the major powers of the Alpha and Beta Quadrents established a Breen Neutral Zone, essentially encasing the Breen within their own territory. Breen aggression has dropped considerably, but has not halted completely.

Ferengi Alliance

There have been several noticable changes in recent years within the Ferengi Alliance. Grand Nagus Zek made several noticable changes in the way that Ferengi females are treated. He permitted them to clothe themselves, conduct business, and travel off of Ferenginar. Shortly after the Dominion War ended, Zek retired, and passed on the position of Grand Nagus to Rom, the brother of DS9 bartender Quark, son of Keldar and Zek's soon-to-be wife, Ishka.

Borg Collective

The Borg have sent several vessels into the Alpha and Beta Quadrants in the past. The return of the U.S.S. Voyager brought some rather unusual news about the Borg -- It is reported that a future version of Katheryn Janeway injected herself with a neurolytic pathogen and allowed herself to be assimilated by the Borg in an effort to return Voyager to Federation space years sooner than anticipated. According to this universe's Captain Janeway, the neurolytic pathogen should have had a disasterous effect on the Borg Collective. Whether or not they will survive and continue as we have known them to is unknown at the present time.

There is also an unusual rebellion within the Borg Collective caused by the earlier doings of the USS Voyager crew. Although apparently not detremental to the Collective, it has spintered it into two entities. As a result, it has essentially created a small civil war that seems to stretch throughout Borg held territories. The extent and strength of this rebellious entity, however, is as yet unknown.

Tholian Assembly

Currently, the Tholians are as they have so often been - remaining within their own borders and generally keeping quiet. They do, however, have ambassadors on Bajor, Earth, Romulus, and Qo'noS. They are also engaged in trade with the Ferengi, although there are current no formal diplomatic relations between the two governments.

Gorn Hegemony

The Gorn have maintained limited contact with the Federation for several decades. Currently, there is a joint Federation/ Gorn colony on Cestus III, and the two governments have exchanged ambassadors.
