HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: The Federation's contact with the Valadis has been mostly limited. A deeply isolationist race, the Valadis only recently opened the "Valadis Corridor" to Federation travel. The Valadis seem to have very little care for the economic benefits of the wrinkle in space that causes the Corridor to be so efficient for travel.  Recently, the Valadis closed the Corridor to Federation travel. It is speculated that this was engineered by the Tholians. For now, the Federation personnel on the other side of the corridor in the Ryalli Sector are stranded until something can be negotiated with the Valadis to reopen the corridor. RACIAL DESCRIPTION: The Valadis are isolationist. Few have ever seen a Valadis, although it is rumored that the race is distinctly non-humanoid. Most contacts are done by audio communications only. As a result, there is no official description of them on file. CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS: The Valadis are xenophobic and isolationist. Historically, their expansion has been very slow. Historical records suggest that their current territory has been relatively the same for several hundred years. Very little else is known about their culture. GOVERNMENT: The Valadis are thought to be an oligarchy made up of heads of clans who trace their ancestry back thousands of years. There is thought to be a great deal of infighting among these clans, though their xenophobia tends to make their dislike of outside races a constant. TECHNOLOGY: The exact technology level of the Valadis is unknown. Their ships use swarm tactics against enemies which are known to be very effective. Analysts speculate that the Valadis have a technological level equivalent to that of the Federation in the early 24th century.
