HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: The Rekisha are a member of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds (BCW), and their relationship with the Belstaisi goes back at least 1000 years. While the current state of relations between the Rekisha and Belstaisi races is excellent, 200 years in the past, parts of the Belstaisi population attempted to destroy the Rekisha during a movement known as The Reform. The Rekisha survived, however, and after a short armed conflict shamed loyal elements of the Belstaisi into defending them against the radical elements. The Rekisha have not made formal contact with the Federation. However, Starfleet officers have spoken to at least one member of their race, the Ship Mind of the Belstaisi Trader Ship, Renuise. By all accounts, the Rekisha are co-dependant on the Belstaisi and counted as full citizens of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds. RACIAL DESCRIPTION: Based on Belstaisi accounts, the Rekisha were once a humanoid race, small and squat in stature, but of great mental and cognitive abilities. Roughly 1000 years in the past, the Rekisha race contracted a genetic fault that slowly caused their race to dwindle. All attempts to fix the genetic flaw ended in failure. As a result, and with the help of the Belstaisi, the Rekisha developed a method of placing a unborn Rekisha infant into a nutrient cylinder that would keep them alive without the need for mobility. The Rekisha slowly evolved into an entirely technological dependant race and the mobile Rekisha died out completely, their race propagated by cloning facilities. Rekisha spend their entire lives in a metallic cylinder, connected to complex computers and life support apparatus. It is suspected that Rekisha brains are capable of almost computer-like computations, which has made them perfect for providing service as computers. Many Rekisha serve in this capacity. The Belstasi revere and honor them for their service. CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS: Very little is known about the Rekisha culture. In BCW society, Rekisha have full rights as citizens and are afforded extremely generous protections by law against abuse by non Rekisha. To some Belstaisi, the Rekisha are viewed in an almost religious nature. The exact reasons for this are unclear, though it may have something to do with mistreatment of the Rekisha by the Belstaisi in the distant past. Interestingly, many Rekisha own their own ships and employ Belstaisi to run them, while they, themselves, serve as the ship's computer. GOVERNMENT: The Rekisha presumably have some form of hierarchy within their own race, but for all intents and purposes, the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds is their government. Rekisha have full rights as citizens of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds. TECHNOLOGY: The technological level of the Rekisha are probably a great deal higher than the Federation’s in certain biotechnological innovations, but otherwise, their technological level is equal to that of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds.
