HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: The Belstaisi are one of two members of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds (BCW). The other member, the Rekisha, is their greatest ally. While the current state of relations between the Rekisha and Belstaisi races is excellent, 200 years in the past, parts of the Belstaisi population attempted to destroy the Rekisha during a movement known as The Reform. The Rekisha survived, however, and after a short armed conflict shamed loyal elements of the Belstaisi into defending them against the radical elements. The Belstaisi race has made many contacts with Starfleet personnel since the beginning of 2378, and relations with them are excellent. In many ways, the Belstaisi race appears to be culturally compatible with that of Starfleet. RACIAL DESCRIPTION: The Belstaisi are a humanoid race. The average Belstaisi stands 2 meters tall (6’6”) and weigh around 90 kg (200 pounds). They have ambidextrous arms and long fingers. They possess no visible nose and have large black eyes. Belstaisi males and females appear to be indistinguishable from one another except for how they wear the hair. Males cut their hair short and females wear their hair to shoulder length. CULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS: The Belstaisi are a race of warriors turned merchants. Their history parallels that of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds in that their war like ways nearly destroyed them. They turned away from it and became merchants in a single generation. Combat remains to key part of their culture, but they now engage in non-lethal forms of it. What does remain of their warrior days is a strict code of honor in everything they do, from trade, to meeting with friends, to combat. Debts of honor among them can last hundreds of years. Interestingly, members of the Belstaisi race claim that they are not among the most bright of races, having taken far longer to make certain technological innovations than many of the surrounding races. What they do appear to have, however, is an innate cunning and sharp tactical sense that applies both in war and trade. Their trade ships are reknowned in the region. Among the more significant cultural aspects of the Belstaisi is their partnership with the organic computer race known as the Rekisha. During a period of cultural turmoil called the Reform, many Rekisha were murdered outright and their existence threatened. Though the conflict was resolved, the average Belstaisi feels a great debt to the Rekisha for the attempted genocide. (see Rekisha profile for more details). GOVERNMENT: The Belstaisi presumably have some form of hierarchy within their own race, but for all intents and purposes, the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds government is their government. TECHNOLOGY: The Belstaisi technological level is equal to that of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds.
