| HISTORICAL OVERVIEW: The Belstaisi Corporate Worlds (BCW) were first discovered by the USS Avalon while on a survey mission near Tempus. The Avalon opened trading negotiations with the BCW ship and bought several local star charts in exchange for cultural information on the Federation. The BCW has since contacted the Tempi and the Yetanni and set up trading posts. In May of 2378, the Terra Nova and Hawaii encountered the BTS Renuise and agreed to escort the ship into the Ryalli Expanse. The Belstaisi on that ship reported that they were searching for warships that once had been lost inside the expanse. Inside the Nebula, the Renuise was attacked by one of the lost Warships, known to them as the Tebligek. Their Starfleet escort moved to assist and were able to disable the attacking vessel with little damage to themselves or the Renuise. Consequently, the Renuise was able to recover the Tebligek almost entirely intact. This incident has helped to raise the Federation’s standing with House Phashir, one of the Belstaisi Corporate World’s six great houses. Consequently, the BCW has helped the Federation in its defense of New Urbaine, offering material supplies and trading deals to buy defensive technology. RACIAL DESCRIPTION: The peoples of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds (BCW) are made up of two distinct races, the Belstaisi and the Rekisha. Their people follow a strict code of conduct in all their transactions, something that has given them a reputation of reliability among most powers in the sector. Belstaisi history reveals that the Corporate Worlds were once not nearly as peaceful as they are currently. At one time the Belstaisi race was an extremely warlike race and at war with many of their neighbors, including, it is rumored, the Qu-rog. Due to a violent movement known to the Belstaisi as the Reform several hundred years in the past, the Belstaisi forced change on their culture, became traders and merchants and created the Entitiy known as the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds. Among the more significant cultural aspects of the Belstaisi Corporate Worlds is the Belstaisi’s partnership with the organic computer race known as the Rekisha. (see Rekisha and Belstaisi profiles above for more details). GOVERNMENT: The Belstaisi Corporate Worlds have what appears to be a representative bicameral parliamentary styled government. All citizens may take part in BCW government, including the organic computer race known as the Rekisha. There are six houses that make up the population of the Belstaisi worlds. A seventh house exists, but it has no power and is made up of outcasts from the other houses. Each of the six houses has equal representation in the first level of parliament. The seats in the second level of parliament are divided by house income. The more income a house makes, the greater a percentage of the seats in the house they may hold. Belstaisi government also has a judicial system similar to Earth’s French Napoleonic Code. Their codes of laws are not changed by precedents. This style of government appears to be what has fueled the Belstaisi’s economic growth. Likewise, all traders are expected to give important cultural and star system information to the government for use by all houses for trade and defense. To prevent corruption and the actions of a few rogue merchants from darkening the reputation of the entire race, and to keep house politics from getting out of hand, Belstaisi merchants and politicians must swear an oath to a merchant’s code of honor. Those who purposely violate this code are often ostracized or even cast out from their house and depending on the violation may expect civil or legal fines and sentences. This code has made Belstaisi traders extremely honorable and reliable and has given the Belstaisi an excellent reputation with nearly every race they have encountered. The Belstaisi have no Space Navy. Their trading fleets serve a defensive purpose as well as economic. TECHNOLOGY: The Belstaisi have a level of technology that is equivalent to the late 22nd century of Earth. They have a crude and inefficient form of matter energy transport, warp drives able to sustain maximum speeds of up to warp 8. Like other races in the Ryalli sector, the Belstaisi appear to employ biotechnology. Unlike Starfleet computer cores, Belstaisi computer cores are almost entirely organic, and exhibit true sentience. It was previously believed that this was a technological innovation, but recent discussions with the Belstaisi have revealed that their computer cores are in fact, sentient creatures that were forced to adapt into technological symbiosis to save their race. This race, known as the Rekisha appears to have extreme mental capabilities and are present on most Belstaisi ships. It has also recently been discovered that the Belstaisi once had a higher level of technology, much closer to the Federation’s 24th century levels. Due to the Reform movement among the Belstaisi over a period of 200 years, many of the more war applicable technological plans and infrastructure were destroyed. The Belstaisi are slowly regaining the knowledge they have lost, perhaps through their trade contacts. Further information on Belstaisi technology is unavailable. |
