(Biblical Accounts) 33 BC -- Starfleet personnel are reported to have visited the ancient Adarrans of Tempus IV in the Ryalli Sector during this year. Very little concrete evidence of this exists, however, an unsual artifact has been discovered in an archeological dig 2400 years later that could ultimately substantiate these claims. In 2377, this salvaged artifact is determined to be a probe with Starfleet markings, indicating that it was launched from the USS Terra Nova. The USS Terra Nova, however, has no record of launching any such probe. An investigation into this discovery remains in effect. Around 250 -- The inhabitants of Vulcan engage in terrible and destructive wars, a result of the violent passions and emotions that govern the Vulcan people. It is a savage time, even by Earth standards. Myths from this period describe a terrifying weapon of war called the Stone of Gol, that kills with the power of the mind. (TOS: "Balanca of Terror", "Amok Time", "All Our Yesterdays", TNG: "Gambit") Around 250 -- Surak leads the Vulcan people on a path of peace and logic. His writings are collected in an artifact called Kir'Shara. His katra will be preserved in a special vessel. (TOS: "Amok Time", "The Savage Curtain", "Star Trek II", TNG: "Gambit", ENT: "The Forge", "The Awakening", "Kir'Shara") Around 250 -- The society on planet 892-IV evolves on a historical path similar to that of Earth, and developes a culture similar to Earth's ancient Rome -- a remarkable example of Hodgkin's Law of parallel planet development. (TOS: "Bread and Circuses") 320 -- The Vulcans achieve warp capability. (Star Trek Star Charts, p. 52) Around 360 -- Dissenters who don't agree with Surak's principles of logic have left Vulcan. They settle on various planets, including Calder II, Dessica II, Draken IV, Yadalla Prime, and Barradas III -- the home of the Debrune civilization. They will later be known as the Romulans. (TOS: "Balance of Terror", "The Enterprise Incident", TNG: "Unification", "Gambit") Around 372 -- The Founders, weary of being hunted and killed by non-shapeshifters, establish the Dominion, which will eventually become a vast interstellar empire. (DS9: "To the Death") Around 420 -- The Romulan Star Empire is founded as rebel Vulcans colonize the twin planets of Romus and Remus. 800's -- In the Ryalli Sector, several hundred inhabitants of the planet Tempus IV are abducted by a lizard race known as the Lesillians, and are transported to a less hospitable planet -- Faele -- for experimentation. The Lesillians practice genetic manipulation on these captives and force them into slave labor. They become known as the Faelen, and will -- centuries later -- become mortal enemies of the militaristic Ryalli race, the Qu-Rog. Prior to 870 -- The people of Kaelon II introduce the custom of the Resolution, a ceremony in which individuals commit suicide at the age of 60 to avoid being a burden to their society. (TNG: "Half a Life") Around 870 -- A war breaks out on solais IV which will last until the 24th century. (TNG: "Loud as a Whisper") Around 900 -- Kahless defeats the tyrant Molor and unites the Klingons. He fights with his brother Morath for twelve days and nights when Morath has brought dishonor to his family. Kahless creates the first bat'leth. At the end of his life, he points to a star in the sky and tells his people to look for him there. A system is developed where a "chorus" of interpreters both hear and speak for the members of the ruling family. His observations about the moon, planets in the solar system, the sun, and the individual stars in the Milky Way confirms Copernican theories. The sky is no longer the sole domain of mystics. (Historical Accounts) 1666 -- Isaac Newton formulates his Laws of Motion, inspired by a member of the Q Continuum who has caused an apple to fall on Newton's head. (VOY: "Death Wish") 18th Century -- A group of alien anthropologists known as the Preservers, relocate American Indians to another planet to preserve them from extinction. (TOS: "The Paradise Syndrome") 1700's -- The Faelen people enter into space travel, but only with the limited and unproven technology of the Lesillians whom they defeated with their own technology at the time. The Faelen lack of imagination in improving their technology, graciously spared other nearby peoples from meeting the Faelen before those people had developed superior technology. Around 1770 -- The war between Eminar VII and Vendikar begins. To avoid the mutual destruction of their civilizations, the two parties later agree on computer-simulated attacks upon which the calculated victims are to report to disintigration chambers. (TOS: "A Taste of Armageddon") Around 1770 -- The two moons of Peliar Zel are colonized and will subsequently engage in hostilities that last until the 24th century. (TNG: "The Host") Around 1770 -- Hundreds of condemned criminals from the star system Ux-Mal are imprisioned on a moon of the planet Mab-Bu VI, where their consciousnesses will seperate from their bodies some unknown time later. (TNG: "Power Play") 1776 -- On July 4th, the United States of America on Earth declares its independance from Great Britain, bringing about the first human modern attempt at large-scale republican government. (Historical Accounts) 1783 (November 21) -- The first recorded manned flight in a hot air balloon took place in Paris. Built from paper and silk by the Montigolfier brothers, this balloon was piloted on a 22 minute flight by two nobleman from the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. From the center of Paris, they ascended 500 feet above the roof tops before eventually landing miles away in the vineyards. Local farmers were very suspicious of this fiery dragon descending from the sky. The offered champagne to placate them, and to celebrate the first human flight, a tradition carried on to this day. (ENT: "The Forge") 1821 -- Writer John Keats dies in Rome on Earth. Much of his work has been inspired by a non-coporeal entity called Onaya. (DS9: "The Muse") 1836 -- On Earth, at the site of an old mission in San Antonio called the Alamo, rebelling against the repressions of Mexico's self-proclaimed dictator, Santa Anna, a band of 189 Texas volunteers defy the Mexican army of thousands for 13 days of seige (February 23 to March 6). The Alamo defenders die to the last man, among them such storied names as William Travis, Davy Crockett, and Jim Bowie. (Historical Accounts) Around 1850 -- The Suliban homeworld becomes uninhabitable. As nomads, Suliban begin to settle down in many other star systems. (ENT: "Detained") Around 1850 -- The last of several wars between the Denobulans and Antarans take place, leaving 20 million Antarans dead, and leading to centuries of mistrust and hatred. (ENT: "The Breach") 1861 -- On Earth, with the Confederate attack on the Union-held Fort Sumter, the American Civil War begins. It will end four years later as one of the bloodiest wars ever fought in North America. (Historical Accounts) Around 1865 -- Humans are abducted from Earth by the Skagarians. Data accidently travels to the year 1893 as well, followed by several of the Enterprise-D crew who successfully prevent the Devidians from further actions in Earth's past. While there, they meet Guinan and Samuel Clemens (aka, Mark Twain). Data also befriends a young Jack London, and inspires the youth to follow his dreams of becoming a novelist. Poverty is widespread in the great powers of Earth. (Historical Accounts) 1930 -- Social worker, Edith Keeler, dies in a road accident on Earth. Records indicate that members of the Enterprise crew were there in the past to witness the event. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever") 1932 -- Seven women are killed in Shanghai, China, by an entity previously known as "Jack the Ripper", and later known as "Redjac". (TOS: "Wolf in the Fold") 1933 -- In the Delphic Expanse, on the Xindi Homeworld, a war that would last 100 years begins between the six species of the Xindi. (ENT: "The Shipment") 1934 -- The first short story featuring fictional detective Dixon Hill is published in Amazing Detective Stories Magazine. (TNG: "The Big Good-Bye") 1936 -- Another Dixon Hill detective story, The Long Dark Tunnel, is published in Amazing Detective Stories Magazine. (TNG: "The Big Good-Bye") 1937 -- Over 300 humans, including aviator Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan who disappear over the Pacific Ocean, are abducted by an alien race called the Briori to the Delta Quadrant. Later, a revolt by the humans suceeds, but the ship that could have taken them home is destroyed. (VOY: "The 37's") 1939 -- The Earth's 2nd World War begins when Germany, under the leadership of Adolph Hitler, invades Poland. (Historical Accounts) 1941 -- The bombing of Pearl Harbor brings the United States into WWII. (Historical Accounts) 1945 -- Earth's 2nd World War ends when the United States detonates a 2nd nuclear weapon over the Japanese city of Nagasaki. During the war, the Germans systematically murdered over 11 million non-combatants, most of them Jews, in a system of death camps all across Europe. The Allied powers, led by the United States, France, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union began a series of trials, over the objections of the major European churches, of the German leadership for genocide and other war crimes against humanity. Most of these leaders were executed. Adolph Hitler was not among those tried, as he committed suicide to avoid capture by the Soviet Army. (Historical Accounts) 1945 -- The United Nations is chartered in San Francisco, CA. The UN is Earth's 2nd attempt at a unified government. Unlike the League of Nations, however, it enjoys the participation of all of Earth's great powers; except China. (Historical Accounts) 1947 -- In July of this year, a Ferengi shuttle crashes near Roswell, New Mexico on Earth. The passengers are taken prisoner by the US military, but they manage to escape. Official government records deny the existance of the aliens and their spacecraft, and claim it was merely a weather balloon. Humans, however, begin to take an interest in idea of UFO's. (DS9: "Little Green Men") 1947 -- Test pilot Chuck Yeager travels faster than the speed of sound in a new rocket-powered plane. Yeager's supersonic flight begins the Jet Age. (Historical Accounts) 1953 -- The Andorians and Vulcans first encounter each other, leadng to two centuries of border conflict. (ENT: "Proving Ground") 1957 -- While observing the launch of Sputnik, a Vulcan ship crashes on Earth, costing one fatality. The survivors are eventually retrieved by another Vulcan ship, however, one of them -- Mestal -- decides to stay on Earth where he will live the rest of his life unnoticed. Before leaving, and in order to help fulfill the college fund of a young student named Jack, T'Mir -- one of the Vulcans -- sells the patent for a Velcro-like material. The project, however, is a disaster, and results in the deaths of all the adults on the planet.
