| BACKGROUND |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| 2350: Born to parents Parker and Mara Abell on Lunar Colony Copernicus. 2359: His parents divorce, and Michael is bounced between parents. 2378: Assigned to the USS Terra Nova. CHILDHOOD: Michael Parker Abell was born to parents Parker and Mara Abell on Lunar Colony Copernicus on May 22, 2350. Family history consists of a coupling Human and T’karan, leaving the Lieutenant with a somewhat slow aging process and a sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation to his eyes. His parents divorced in 2360, and Michael spent his time divided between his mother, who relocated to Phoenix, AZ, and his father who moved to Washington D.C. on Earth. EDUCATION: He attended Phoenix International University to study prewarp military history, 20th century. His application to the Federation Marine Corps had been rejected due to visual handicap. Because he was in the SJROTC (Starfleet Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps), he joined Starfleet as a Petty Officer 3rd class in 2368 and attended college while working for Federation Press and Information Bureau as a writer. He used his position as part of Starfleet (and his mother's position as professor) to help him attend PXI, given his low high school scores. Abell was granted his request to take the NCO exam in late 2372 and attended Starfleet Academy for basic non commissioned officer training. He fought in battle of sector 001 on reserve duty aboard the U.S.S. Majestic During his NCO training course, earning him the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal. He graduated in 2373, but despite his college education, prior high school grades restricted him from officer commission. STARFLEET SERVICE: He was given command of five junior enlisted personnel as a Petty Officer 3 aboard the Danube Class runabout U.S.S. Savannah and patrolled the Sol System and various small Federation territories. At the outbreak of the Dominion war, Abell was promoted to Petty Officer 2 and assigned as a security NCO aboard the U.S.S. Freetown, an appallingly undermanned vessel, under Captain Abdul Rahim. Enroute to Deep Space 9, the Freetown was assigned to ask the Tamarian military to participate in the Dominion War. Abell was the only person on board who had adequate knowledge of the “Darmok” incident at El-Adrel IV and was selected to communicate with the Tamarians. After a confusing, but successful negotiation, the Tamarians agreed to send a small force to assist in the conflict. Later in the war, Abell would help coordinate attacks with this task force. He would receive a Diplomatic Citation for this and it contributed to his promotion to Petty Officer 1. To some, it seems impossible for a mere enlisted crewmember to accomplish what Federation diplomats could not, and Mike always enjoys tellign that particular story. Unfortunately, the Freetown was severely damaged and forced to be left derelict during the opening battle. He and the rest of the Freetown survivors, mostly enlisted members and badly wounded officers injured while attempting to lead repair teams were assigned to the U.S.S. Kandahar -- an Intrepid class cruiser fresh out of the Utopia Planitia dry docks. Abell served with distinction aboard the Kandahar throughout the Dominion Crisis, and earned the Good Conduct Ribbon after his performance in the Battle of AR-558 and the battle of Chin‘toka. At the end of the Dominion war, Abell was assigned an observer role on the U.S.S. Enterprise until Star Fleet could choose a suitable transfer for him. As a result, he assisted the crew during the Baku crisis in the Briar Patch. His actions on board the flagship earned him a promotion to Chief Petty Officer and he was transferred to the U.S.S. Sovereign to serve with the security personnel. By this time, he had become an expert at small arms combat, partly due to his hobby of war reenactments in the Holodeck. When the Sovereign was reassigned to patrol duties on the Romulan Neutral zone after rumors of political upheaval on Romulus first reached the Federation in 2378, Chief Abell was transferred to Liberty station in the Ryalli Expanse. Three months later, he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and transferred to the USS Terra Nova. - |

| PERSONALITY PROFILE |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| Although
Abell is a very military-oriented man, he is typically a friendly person
towards his peers, but he can be cynical towards his superiors. While he
will not question an order, it is not unheard of for him to spend a few hours
in the brig for muttering some negative comments about his assignment to
his fellow crewmembers, especially if the officer in question is younger
or less experienced than he is. It has never occured to him that that makes
up a considerable amount of people due to his own age and experience. He
also has strong moral ideals, and will not hold his objections from being
heard. After being raised by two very liberal parents, Michael is very open minded toward other species and denominations. Oddly enough, he seems to like Ferengi, a sometimes frowned upon race when not part of starfleet. He does have a deep contempt towards Symbiont Trill, however, from an experience he encountered during his NCO course in which he threatened to kill the slug like Symbiont after his romantic partner rejected the transplant and was consequently killed. The then Crewman Abell spent an undisclosed amount of time in the brig for this action. - - |

| PHYSICAL PROFILE |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| Michael
is 6’ 2”, 230 lbs, muscular build with some fat reserves. He has brown hair
with lightened tip areas (often shaved off completely), Green eyes, and a
deep voice. Medical Officer’s note: Abell’s eyes, as a result of the cross breeding, are somewhat inaccurate in normal light and are hypersensitive to very bright light. They will shine blue or ultraviolet purple in extreme circumstances, thus requiring a polarized filter. Prescribed UV protection glasses have been issued, and corrective eye surgery has been sucessfully administered to correct his normal vision to Starfleet standards. Michael Abell’s eye condition is a genetic flaw that occurs anywhere between the third and up to the eight generation of a bloodline (although it can occur even later, probability laws make this less likely), combining the Human visual spectrum with the K‘Taran ultraviolet spectrum. This is caused by his genetic structure attempting to combine both, when prior generations have one or the other. - - |

| SPECIAL NOTES |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| Chief
Abell continues to submit officer's commission requests, but Star Fleet regulations
regarding education prohibit his commission. He has extensive knowledge of 20th and early 21st century culture and history. He has also memorized the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. His best friend on the Terra Nova is Crewman Ryko Tabor. He is currently in a relationship with CPO Toshiko Sandvik. FAMILY RECORD: Parker Abell: -- Father -- Civilian Flight Instructor, Washington D.C. on Earth Mara Carparzo: -- Mother -- Professor of literature, Phoenix International University, Phoenix.
