BACKGROUND
February 8, 2352: Born to parents Jacob and Madeline Vaughan in Mackay, Australia.
2374: Graduated from Starfleet Academy.

CHILDHOOD:
Gabriel, or Gabe as he is known, was born on February 8th 2353 in Mackay, Australia. His parents, Jacob and Madeline Vaughan, were both university professors. An intelligent child, Gabe received high grades in all of his subjects throughout school.

EDUCATION:
From an early age, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. He wanted to explore the galaxy. He had a thirst for knowledge that couldn't be satisfied by textbooks. So, after graduating from high school in 2370, he took the Starfleet Academy entrance exam. He consistantly scored well throughout his time at the Academy. He served his cadet cruise aboard the Andromeda-class USS Tenzing and graduated in 2374 with High Distinctions.

STARFLEET SERVICE:
A freshly-commissioned Ensign, Gabriel Vaughan was assigned to Starbase 243 as a general science officer. His role at the starbase was rather routine and certainly didn't satisfy the explorer in him. After four months on the starbase, however, he was granted a transfer to the Nova-class USS Matthew Flinders, which was embarking upon a survey mission to the Ga'lon Cluster.

The Ga'lon Cluster is a section of space far outside of Federation borders that has a large concentration of star systems in a relatively small sector of space. The job of the Matthew Flinders was to provide Starfleet with it's first up-close look at the cluster. It was a fifteen-month mission that proved to be a highlight of Gabe's life.

The crew of the Flinders made first contact with three different species, catalogued nineteen star systems, discovered two primitive humanoid species and mapped the entire cluster. Gabe was kept very busy in his role as a science officer for the entirety of the expedition. The mission was a total success and proved to be a welcome scientific achievement in a time scarred by war. Once the mission was completed, the crew of the Matthew Flinders received unit citations.

While the Flinders was put into spacedock for a refit, Gabe was reassigned to the Nebula-class USS Discovery. He served aboard the Discovery for nineteen months. The Discovery was a specific-mission ship that often ventured out of Federation space. During Gabe's first year aboard the ship, it returned to the Ga'lon Cluster to catalogue the native flora and fauna of Osen IV. It was here that Gabe was attacked by a small marsupial that was, as Gabe found out, very territorial. Catching him by surprise the animal bit off the tip of the middle finger on his right hand. Despite all his efforts to catch it, the animal got away with Gabe's fingertip.

After serving on the Discovery, Gabe was reassigned to Liberty Station as a science officer. He hadn't served there for more than a month before he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant junior grade.
