BACKGROUND
2352: Born in Louisiana, Earth.
2374: Elisabeth graduates from Starfleet Academy.

CHILDHOOD:
Elisabeth Manning was born in Louisiana in 2352.  Her parents both served as Federation marshalls within the North American continent. For most of her life, she grew up in Louisiana, gaining both the Louisina drawl and a bilingual background in both Spanish and English. While growing up, she showed a keen interest in mechanical and electrical projects, going so far as to repair a hopelessly broken replicator her parents half stored in the garage for years, when she was 13. Elisabeth also has practiced martial arts since she was 6, and has a black belt with bands in several forms of fighting.

EDUCATION:
Elisabeth Manning's elementary and secondary school career was average at best. She did not excell at school nor did she have any interest in it while growing up. As a result, her scores when completing secondary school were within the lowest 20% of her class.

Yet, shortly before graduating, Elisabeth became determined to join Starfleet. Despite her parents warnings that her poor acedemic record would preclude any such posibility, she applied for Starfleet Academy, and took the tests. Strangely enough, her surprisingly high scores, and with a little bit of pulling for favors by her parents, she was accepted into Starfleet academy on probation.

Once Elisabeth began classes, her turnaround stunned everyone, including her parents and instructors. But most of all, it shocked Elisabeth herself. Within the first year, she was in the top 30% of her class. By the time she graduated, she was in the top 2%.

Her academy career was not without blemish however. In her freshman year, she was suspended for three weeks because of charges of assault and battery. Her suspension came as a result of critically injuring a senior with several well placed karate blows. When the matter was fully investigated, it was discovered that the upperclassman had attempted to sexually assault her. He was expelled and brought up on charges as a result. Elisabeth was instructed to seek counseling.

STARFLEET SERVICE:
Once out of the Academy in 2374, Elisabeth was assigned to the engineering staff on the USS Triest. She served on the Triest only a year, when the ship was irreparably damaged in a battle with the Jem H'adar. She then was reassigned to the aging Excellsior class ship Marksole, which was assigned to the Earth Defence Fleet. Both the ship and Elisabeth served without distinction in the last year of the war.

In 2376, Elisabeth was reassigned to the Utopia Planitia Shipyards to join the Defiant refit project. With the large quantities of that class of ship having been laid out and not yet completed, the decision was made to refit them to serve in other duties than tactical. Elisabeth was part of a plan to combat the shortage of engineers by using a great many lower ranked officers to assist in the refits. The experiance gained would allow these officers to fill positions that would have otherwise required more experianced officers.

In 2377, with the completion of the USS Terra Nova, Elisabeth was assigned as an engineer. When Lt. Commander Lok and Lt. Lorenz transfered at Tempus, Elisabeth became the new Assistant Engineer simply due to seniority. Following Commander Banda's promotion to Captain in 2378, Elizabeth earned a promotion to full lieutenant, and Chief Engineer.

PERSONALITY PROFILE
Elisabeth is friendly, but extremely no-nonsence to those she works with. She takes her job seriously, and works extremely hard, often going above the call of duty to get her work done right. Her manner is the result of people not taking her seriously because of her looks. She also feels she has something to prove. Her early schooling and poor acedemics still trouble her. Privately, Elisabeth is a softy, liking romance novels, and mushy girl talk, but it takes her a while to open up to people.

PHYSICAL PROFILE
Lt. Manning is relatively short, with beautiful brown hair. She is extremely fit and somewhat muscular. She is strikingly attractive, a fact that often attracts unwanted attention to her. She tends to dress down, keeping her hair and appearance very plain to counter it. In private among close friends, she speaks with a soft Louisiana accent, but in public, she often speaks in a very flat midwestern one, another adaptation to stave off unwanted male attention.
