| BACKGROUND |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| 2341: Born in New York City, Earth. 2342: Darren and his family move to the New Providence Colony on Jouret IV. 2363: Darren graduates from Starfleet Academy. 2366: His entire family is killed when the Borg destroys the New Providence Colony. 2366: Darren becomes a veteran survivor of the Battle of Wolf 359. 2373: Darren's wife is killed aboard the USS Endeavor while defending Sector 001 from the Borg. CHILDHOOD: Born in 2341, the son of a Federation Marine Officer and a teacher, Darren grew up in a military family. His father was actually transferred shortly after his birth, so, even though he was born on Earth, he spent his childhood growing up on the New Providence Colony on Jouret IV. His childhood was typical of children growing up on Federation colony, and so education and a moral upbringing were mixed with a good social life. Though his father served in the Marine forces there in New Providence, Darren's family was rather close-knit. As a result, Darren's youth was spent growing up in a loving family surrounded by people, places, and things he loved. As he got older, he developed an interest in military history, including such on a starship level. Also, following a few vacations back to Earth to his city of birth, Darren started to find a desire in himself to learn about New York City. He had a great many relatives that lived in New York City, and later, from geneological research, found that most of his ancestors where from there as well. EDUCATION: STARFLEET SERVICE: In 2365, the Minerva was seriously damaged by an Ionic Storm while on a rescue mission, and was ordered back to the nearest Federation Starbase for significant repairs/refit. The crew was also turned over, and once again, Darren was up for reassignment. His new assignment was to the Nebula Clas USS Endeavor. A year later, bad news reached Darren. The Borg had completely destroyed his home. According to reports, the New Providence Colony on Jouret IV had been completely 'scooped up'. Nothing was left but a large crater a few miles wide. His father, mother, two brothers, and one sister all perished.... That was not all the news though.... Along with it came the order that the USS Endeavor was to join a joint fleet of Federation and Klingon vessels at Wolf 359 to repel a Borg cube headed for Earth. There was little time for Darren to grieve though as the battle soon took place. By a stroke of luck, out of 40 vessels, the Endeavor was the only ship to survive intact. Darren lost many of his comrades onboard. Following the USS Enterprise's timely arrival and destruction of the Borg Cube, Darren was given temporary 'indefinte leave' to grieve his losses. As a sidenote, he was also given high honors from Starfleet for his role, and suvival, in the Battle of Wolf 359. Darren took nearly a year off. During that time he visited the remains of what used to be his home on Jouret IV, and then returned to Earth and stayed among relatives in New York City. In 2369, he decided to return to Starfleet service, though requested an assignment on Earth. Returning to the stars after loosing five family members and two close friends was still not something he felt ready for. His assignment was to Starfleet Headquarters on the Security staff. He served there for nearly two years, still not eager to return to the stars. He never went back to Jouret IV. In 2370, Darren was finally convinced to accept an assignment to the USS Hermes. He did so, with a promotion to Lt. (jg), and still somewhat uncertain if he was ready, but over the next year, he proved that enough time had passed for him to mourn. Part of that too was due to his new friendship with a female officer he served with on the Hermes. Ironically, over the next year, she and Darren grew closer, and in 2372 were married. When a position opened for his wife back on the same USS Endeavor he had served on only a few years ago, he was a little hesitant to let that ship back in his life. After much support from his wife, it was decided that she would accept the position, and he would seek to be reassigned there, to be able to still be near her. She transfered and his request was accepted. Unfortunately, the Borg would be back to haunt them. In 2373, the Borg tried yet again to invade Earth, but once again were repelled, with the help of the time-traveling USS Enterprise-E. Sadly, the Endeavor was once again called to defend Earth. This ship survived, but once again, the toll for Darren was great.This time the Borg took his wife from him. She was lost when a bulkhead fell on her. The final straw had been pulled. Darren, in deep depression, resigned his Starfleet commission and returned to new York City. There he resided, taking on a lower-end position in the New York City Police force. He served there for four years. He never remarried, despite some efforts from relatives to 'hook him up'. In 2377, upon the conclusion of the Dominion War, he was called upon by Admiral Harrington to rejoin the ranks of Starfleet. There was a serious shortage of qualified officers to replace the ranks of those killed in action. Once again feeling a bit of that draw to serve his Federation, as opposed to a slow job on the NYC Police force, he grudgingly accepted, but only on the condition that he be assigned to Deep Space Exploration duty. As luck would have it, the small Defiant Class, USS Terra Nova was in need of a Chief Security/Tactical Officer. Along with a promotion to full Lt., the Terra Nova would become his new home.... After only a short stay on the USS Terra Nova, his skills
were needed onboard the larger Nebula Class USS Lincoln. He currently
serves there as Chief Security Officer, a non-bridge position.

| PERSONALITY PROFILE |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| Since having
lost so many dear to him in his years of Starfleet service, Darren
has become a rather quiet individual. He does his duty well, almost
exemplary, however a good deal of his heart was lost with those he
loved. Those that get to know him now can see the scars left in his
heart. He is a kind, respectful officer, but he does not protest
much. He just does his duty as requested. This is what he had wanted
to do all his life, it is almost as if he feels obligated to do so
until his own death. He masks his depression/sadness, and though
somewhat distant at times, does succeed at keeping a satistfied cheery
disposition. But he has lost much. He used to suffer violent nightmares,
but, for the most part, those have subsided. Occassionally he still
dreams that he and his wife are together; he loved her very much. He
has vowed to himself to hold his heart closer and not lose it to any
further more disasters. Deep down, he hopes the that the only other
time his heart has to break is when it stops beating. Until then,
he is duty-bound.
He hates Borg with an intense passion....

| PHYSICAL PROFILE |
|
||||||||||||||||||||
| Darren is of
somewhat rugged features, but for the most part these are due to
the hardships of his past. He purposely retains a scar up his left
arm to remember his wife by. While on the USS Endeavor with her,
she died in his arms. The scar was gained while supporting the bulkhead
that had fallen on her... - - |
