MAIN BRIDGE:

The USS Terra Nova is equipped with a battle-ready bridge and ship-wide systems control. This acts as the nerve center for the entire vessel. Unlike most Starfleet ships, however, the entire Terra Nova bridge module is sunken into deck one to provide added protection during combat situations. Access to the bridge is provided by two doorways at the back, located on the port and starboard sides.

Because of its original intended role as a combat vessel, stations aboard Defiant-class vessels are designed with speed in mind. All of the five main stations on the bridge feature dedicated ODN access lines to the computer core, and can even bypass the core should it be taken offline. Triple redundant access lines connect the entire bridge to the rest of the ship, and dedicated ODN relays allow for damaged systems to be bypassed and computer lagtime to be decreased.

The center of the bridge features the Captain's chair, which is on a raised platform and has a clear view of the viewscreen and all bridge stations. On both sides of the command chair are separate control panels, allowing the occupant access to virtually every system onboard the ship.

Between the command chair and the viewscreen is an integrated flight control station. Like all of the bridge stations on a Defiant-class vessel, the Conn has been designed so that the time between a given command and the action being taken is close to being instant as possible. This allows for the craft to be handled almost like a fighter when under the hands of a skilled pilot.

To the right of the Captain is the Tactical station, which has primary access to the ship’s powerful pulse phaser canons, torpedo launchers and various other special ordinance packages. Working closely with Conn, the officer stationed here is responsible for firing the various weapons aboard Defiant-class vessels during combat operations.

Mirroring the Tactical station, and on the left side of the Captain's chair, is the Operations station. The officer here is responsible for maintaining shipboard functions, communication, and other mission-specific needs during all shipboard operational modes. Oboard the USS Terra Nova, this station is often manned by the the Executive Officer.

On the forward starboard side of the bridge is the Science Station. Normally occupied by the ship’s Chief Science Officer, the panels and readouts on this station allow direct access to the ship’s sensor systems and science labs. Capable of taking high resolution scans of both natural and artificial phenomena, this station plays a vital role during reconnaissance and mapping missions.

Mirroring the Science station, and on the port side of the bridge is the Engineering station. The officer here has a direct link to the impulse and warp engines, as well as monitoring of the other various engineering systems vital to the operation of the ship. This single station is capable of mirroring all the readouts and consoles located in Main Engineering, thus allowing the Chief Engineer or other senior engineering officer the ability to issue commands from the bridge.

To the rear of the bridge is an integral master situation monitor and conference table allowing the crew to study and plan strategies and tactics during reduced action periods. This table is capable of displaying various mission-relevant information in a variety of forms, and includes a small holographic projection area in the center of the table's surface.

A personal food replicator is also located within this bridge alcove, to provide for the food and dietary needs of all bridge officers and personnel while on duty.
